Constipation

A diet with little amount of water or fiber could lead to constipation. Constipation is not only frustrating but could lead to other complications such as the tearing of the perianal region. In some worst case scenario it could lead to the formation of hemorrhoids, which could be painful and embarrassing at the same time for the person affected. There are many over the counter drugs that could help ease the effects of constipation such as Dulcolax(bisacodyl), Colace(docusate) and suppositories. But for people who prefer to get rid of constipation naturally, I have listed below some alternative remedies:

  • Drink plenty of water, at least 6 glasses per day.
  • The ripe fruit of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophylus) is an excellent laxative. But, be careful though, too much consumption of the ripe fruit could cause diarrhea.
  • Boil leaves of acacia (Samanea saman) in water for 10 minutes. Drink infusion frequently.
  • Since all fruits and vegetables are rich in fiber, ingest plenty everyday.
  • Alcohol consumption could sometimes lead to constipation. Drink at least 3 glasses of water after drinking alcohol.
